Our Story

The Beginning

The National Association of Activity Professionals’ Credentialing Center (NAAPCC) was formed in January of 2011 because of many requests from the members of the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP). After three years of research and much discussion it was decided to offer a Board Certification.

We are APNCC

The APNCC is committed to helping Activity Professionals obtain a Board Certification that is all encompassing and  meets F Tag 680.

APNCC OFFERS

An all-encompassing certifications: Activity Professional Board Certification (AP-BC), Advanced Activity Professional (AAP-BC), as well as the Activity Consultant/Educator Board Certification (AC- BC). These credentials assure an employer that the individual has preparation to work in any long term care continuum. 

Our Standards of Practice

APNCC Certified Professionals

Have certain fundamental obligations to the profession, the individuals they serve, and to peers and colleagues.

  • The Code of Ethics states guidelines and rules for the conduct of APNCC certified professionals in fulfilling those obligations.
  • This Code is intended to promote the highest quality of practice in all forms of certification and to strengthen public confidence in the profession.
  • This code serves as a basis and does not exhaust the moral and ethical considerations that should inform a certified Activity Professional.

Standards of Practice | Code of Ethics for Certified Professionals

APNCC certified professionals have certain fundamental obligations to the profession, the individuals they serve, and to peers and colleagues. 

  • The Code of Ethics states guidelines and rules for the conduct of APNCC certified professionals in fulfilling those obligations.
  • This Code is intended to promote the highest quality of practice in all forms of certification and to strengthen public confidence in the profession. 
  • This code serves as a basis and does not exhaust the moral and ethical considerations that should inform a certified activity professional.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Professional

I.

Conduct:

The APNCC certified professional shall maintain the highest of standards of professionalism, integrity and personal conduct at all times. They shall respect and protect the rights of the clients/residents they serve, treat colleagues with professional courtesy and respect the dignity of all concerned at all times.

Confidential

II.

Confidentiality:

The APNCC certified professional shall protect the confidentiality of all professionally acquired information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.  Any information about clients/residents, colleagues and professional peers shall be treated as confidential and exchanged in a professional manner.

III.

Professional:

The APNCC certified professional shall strive for professional competence, maintain and advance their knowledge of the field of activities, respect the body of activity accomplishment, and contribute to its growth. They must recognize that professional growth is continuous, the need for continuing education to ensure competency and neither claim or imply professional qualifications exceeding those they possess. They shall conduct themselves in an honest, ethical manner and maintain integrity at all times.

Communication:

The APNCC certified professional shall maintain an open channel of communication as well as strive for accurate and truthful communications in all interactions with colleagues and all parties associated with their professional position.

Professional Associate

V.

Professional Associations:

The APNCC certified professionals are required to adhere to the Code of Ethics and By-Laws governing all professional associations to which he/she belongs. They shall provide leadership and/or services to the associations to which they belong without expectation of financial gain.

Legal:

The APNCC certified professional shall comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding the provision of services to clients/residents, professional peers and colleagues.

Meet Our Board Of Directors

Diane Mockbee
Director Of Operations | BS, AC-BC

Diane’s dedication and contributions to the field have garnered her esteemed recognition, including being a Life Member of the National Association of Activity Professionals and receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arizona Association of Activity Professionals in 2018. It is noteworthy that Diane has also served as Past President of both of these esteemed organizations, showcasing her exceptional leadership capabilities.

 

In 2010, Diane was appointed as the Director of Operations for the National Association of Activity Professionals Credentialing Center (NAAPCC), an esteemed position she held until her retirement from full-time work in March 2018. This pivotal role allowed her to leverage her extensive experience as an Activity Director and Dementia Trainer in long-term care, which spanned over 30 years. Diane’s dedication to professional development is further evident through her involvement in the Conference/Education Committee for the Arizona Health Care Association, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing the knowledge and skills of fellow professionals.

 

Furthermore, Diane is the proud owner of “A Journey in Living,” a consultancy firm focused on Quality-of-Life Consultation. Through this endeavor, she provides valuable consulting services and delivers engaging presentations in various settings, sharing her expertise and insights with a diverse range of audiences.

 

In her capacity as the Director of Operations for the APNCC, Diane remains at the forefront of the evolving needs and challenges faced by Activity Professionals nationwide. Leading the Board of Directors, she leverages her extensive experience and knowledge to provide guidance and support to those aspiring to become board certified, as well as ensuring the availability of pre-approved continuing education opportunities. Diane takes great pride in the high standards, ethical practices, and professionalism upheld by herself and her esteemed board.

 

Diane Mockbee is an exemplar of excellence in the field of Activity Professionals. Debbie Bouknight
DIRECTOR | BS, AC-BC, CDP

Debbie’s outstanding contributions extend beyond her daily responsibilities. She has been actively involved in her State Association Board, SCAPA, assuming various key positions such as District Representative, Recording Secretary, Membership Secretary, Professional Development Chair, and President. Her multifaceted involvement demonstrates her leadership capabilities, organizational prowess, and dedication to advancing the field.

 

Additionally, Debbie has made significant contributions as a member of the SC Spirit of Caring Committee for over a decade. This committee, a collaborative effort between skilled care providers and state surveyors, aims to recognize and promote Best Practices within the state. Debbie’s involvement highlights her commitment to fostering excellence and enhancing the quality of care provided in the industry.

 

Notably, she has also served on the SC Dementia Coalition through the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence, further emphasizing her dedication to addressing the unique needs of individuals affected by dementia. As a testament to her expertise, Debbie holds a Board-Certified Activity Consultant certification from the APNCC, underscoring her firm belief in the importance of certification for Activity Professionals. Her commitment to professional development is evident through her initial certification as an Activity Consultant Certified 30 years ago, as well as her additional certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner.

 

Recognizing the value of national certification, Debbie actively advocates for the crucial role it plays in enabling professionals to lead and execute exceptional programs. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for APNCC, where she plays a pivotal role in ensuring that new APNCC applicants meet the rigorous criteria for Board certification. Additionally, Debbie contributes to the field through her written contributions to national publications for APNCC and diligently maintains the APNCC Facebook page, ensuring that vital information reaches a wide audience.

 

Debbie’s unwavering dedication, extensive experience, and commitment to advancing the field of Activities make her an invaluable asset to the profession. Her leadership, expertise, and ongoing efforts to promote excellence solidify her position as a trusted advocate and resource for fellow professionals in the industry.

Lorre Baird
DIRECTOR | BS, AAP-BC, ADC, CDP

For the past 21 years, she has held the esteemed position of Vice President of Resident Services at The Manor, a reputable continual care retirement community in Florence, SC. In this capacity, Lorre has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to providing outstanding resident services.

 

As the Activity Coordinator for Independent Living, Lorre assumes a pivotal role in overseeing the activities and engagement programs for residents. Furthermore, she provides guidance and supervision to three Activity Coordinators responsible for Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Care. Her comprehensive oversight ensures the provision of exceptional services across multiple care settings within the community.

 

Lorre’s active involvement in her State Association, SCAPA, is a testament to her dedication to professional development and industry advancement. She has held various influential positions within the association, including District Representative, Conference Chair, Vice-President, President, and Past President. Currently, she is assuming the role of Conference Chair for the upcoming 2024 conference, further showcasing her commitment to facilitating meaningful educational and networking opportunities for fellow professionals.

 

In her role as a Director for APNCC, Lorre assumes crucial responsibilities. She is entrusted with maintaining the organization’s bylaws, ensuring their ongoing relevance and compliance. Additionally, Lorre plays a vital role in keeping the policies and procedures up to date, as well as monitoring the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, and Conflict of Interests documents for the Credentialing Center. Her meticulous oversight ensures the integrity and professionalism of the certification process.

 

Lorre’s commitment to continuing education and certification for activity professionals is evident in her unwavering support for these endeavors. She recognizes the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards not only within the work environment but also in all aspects of professional and personal conduct. Lorre’s dedication to upholding ethical principles reinforces her status as a trusted leader and advocate within the field.

Shelley Evans
DIRECTOR | MT-BC, AC-BC, ACC, CDP, CADDCT

She is the author of the Activity Professionals Workbook. She is a contributing editor for Creative Forecasting writing the monthly article It’s Party Time. Shelley states, “it is important for activity professionals to seek to meet their professional goals.” Mentoring and coaching new activity professionals is a passion of hers. She is on the Board of Directors for APNCC. She serves as a contact person and resource to communicate the ongoing vision and mission of APNCC. Shelley has written many articles on behalf of the Credentialing Center.

Evelyn’s outstanding professional background includes her remarkable tenure as the President of the Denver Metro Chapter for the Colorado Activity Professionals Association (CAPA) spanning four terms. Her vast experience encompasses administering two small Assisted Living Communities and serving as a valued member of various Leadership Teams. Notably, Evelyn’s contributions to one particular team resulted in the elevation of a focus building to a prestigious 5 STAR rating, highlighting her exceptional ability to drive success.

 

Known for her self-motivation, boundless energy, and proactive nature, Evelyn consistently demonstrates unwavering initiative and ambition. Her unwavering commitment to accountability and integrity further solidifies her reputation as a reliable professional. Furthermore, Evelyn embodies a customer-centric mindset, placing great emphasis on delivering exceptional service and fostering positive relationships.

Joan M. Flannigan
Ex-Officio Board Member| AC-BC, CMIS-I

Joan’s involvement in the NAAPCC Business Start-Up Committee showcases her dedication to advancing the industry, specifically in the areas of Director of Finance and Public Relations Director.

 

With a career spanning an impressive 46 years, Joan has amassed a rich tapestry of accomplishments. Her journey began as a military wife, where she initially worked as a Dining Room Manager for Sheraton Hotels during a transfer to Seattle, WA in 1975. Subsequently, she transitioned into the field of Activities, assuming the role of an Activity Director upon relocating to SD, CA. Her tenure as an Activity Director spanned an impressive 14 years.

 

Throughout her career, Joan’s impact extended beyond direct service delivery. She served as an Adult Education Instructor at SD Community College, sharing her expertise and knowledge with aspiring professionals. Additionally, she took on the role of Care Enterprises QA/QI Activity/Psychosocial Consultant for the Southern Region, overseeing a substantial number of facilities in NM. Her expertise was further recognized as she assumed the position of Lead Instructor for the Activity Course at the College of the Desert.

 

Joan’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for individuals extended to her role as Lead in the Activity/Rec. Therapy Department at Newport Bay Hospital. Beyond national borders, she has served as an esteemed educational speaker on “Quality of Life Activity Programming” at state, national, and international platforms, including Canada.

 

Joan’s involvement in professional associations further solidifies her esteemed reputation. She has held positions such as Board Member Nominations for NAAP, Lifetime Member of NAAP, President/VP of SCAAC, President/VP of SCAAP, Lifetime Member of SDACC, VP of ADGSD, and Board Member Activity Professionals Representative for SDHCA. Her unwavering commitment to excellence in service was acknowledged when she received the prestigious 2018 Annual Circle of Honor Award from SDHCA.

 

In addition to her remarkable career, Joan is the proud owner of ACE (Activity Consultant Educators), a venture dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise in the field. As a state, national, and international educational speaker, she consistently empowers professionals and elevates the industry through her informative presentations.
